Manifest
“For me, the most important idea behind any design I create is: Can this object last a lifetime — or even longer? Longevity is always the starting point. That doesn’t just mean using sustainable materials from the right sources — though that’s essential. It also means giving the object a story.

We love to tell stories. And when a meaningful story aligns with a thoughtful design, something special happens. You’re not just making a product; you’re creating a conversation piece. Something that might be lived with, talked about, and eventually passed on. That’s when it becomes a future heirloom.”

About

Brian Kersbergen is a Dutch designer based in Amsterdam whose interdisciplinary practice spans design, curatorship, and pedagogy. Between 2007 and 2022, his work has been exhibited in over 65 national and international art and design contexts, including 10 solo exhibitions. He has been nominated for five awards recognizing excellence in design and forward-thinking curatorial approaches.

Operating under the name studio briankersbergen, his practice is concerned with the development of design as a discursive tool—producing work that functions as a catalyst for critical reflection and social harmony. His approach integrates systems thinking and ecological awareness, positioning design as a mode of inquiry into contemporary cultural and environmental conditions.

Kersbergen is active in design education and regularly lectures as a guest speaker at institutions and symposia. In 2023, he co-founded biobaseddesign.com in collaboration with Pepijn Duijvestein of New Economy. Their inaugural project, the Regenerative Modular Cabinet, was presented at Dutch Design Week 2023 in Eindhoven, offering a research-based exploration into regenerative materials and modular systems within the context of sustainable design.
